So That's What He Thinks, Huh?

One of the joys of Direct TV (cheap plug) is discovering new wrestling programs. Ring of Honor, or, ROH on HDNet, has been around for a while, but I just started watching it lately. This past Monday night, I was watching when Jim Cornette was interviewing ROH's version of a World Champion, Tyler Black. He must have had a corncob up his butt, when he said that there are some fans who don't come here to cheer anyone, they just come here to boo Tyler Black, tell him he sucks, and go online to talk about how they can't wait for him to lose the belt. The entire context can be found here.

This is thrown out to Tyler Black, and the other so-called champions of the other federations. When you "win" the world title, expect the fans of this day and age to get tired of you rather quickly. Today, the average fan's attention span is about five minutes. Today's wrestling fan expects a championship to change hands on a monthly basis. Wrestling fans, instead of pulling for the best wrestler, often go for the "Flavor Of The Month". So Tyler Black is upset when fans boo him and long for the day that he loses the title. Well Mr. Black, for your information, the fans have been like that since the begining.

Wrestling fans in my day would boo the champion when he came to town to face the territory's champion at the time. I grew up during the territory days, so I recall many popular champions who got jeered when they would go to a territory. It's the nature of the beast. It happens. You are nothing special Mr. Black. Join the club! Be lucky that you signed with WWE when you did, because in my day, you wouldn't have made it past the preliminary part of the card. At best, you are a mid-card wrestler, which will likely get you a 6 figure check from the WWE, or #1 contender to the TNA title.
